As a family photographer, I love being able to photograph families as they grow and change through the years. Last fall, I had the distinct pleasure of doing a mother-son session for Aurora and Tristan in Old Town Alexandria (check out their session here). So when Aurora reached out asking if I could take their photos again this fall, I was absolutely giddy – especially when she told me that she and Duane were now engaged and expecting a baby in the winter!!

For our session, Aurora and Duane invited us to their beautiful cabin home in Haymarket. After spending months in Alexandria during the pandemic, it was so refreshing and amazing to experience the crisp air and fall colors out west! Of course, Tristan wasted no time nosediving into a glorious pool of golden, crunchy leaves (who could blame him?), which gave us some of my favorite fall photos ever. As always, I loved his infectious energy and range of expressions – and he rocked his cream shawl-collar sweater like a pro!

After some good, leafy fun, we took some portraits of just Aurora and Duane in the beautiful, serene wood paths and creek behind their cabin. I definitely joked a few times that they should rent out the space for photographers, although Duane did not seem too enthusiastic about this idea. 😉 These two were absolute naturals in front of the camera, and I’m totally expecting a very photogenic baby Gardner soon!
